Stand Up.
Know your worth. Stand up when something feels off. Stand up and rally and ask questions when you know you deserve more. It can make a difference. Don’t be afraid to make waves. We don’t put up with harrassment, big or small. We don’t put up with “suffering” because we are actors. If I have learned anything in my decade of performing, it’s to not be afraid to speak up.
When first starting out in this business, I think it can be really scary to speak up when something doesn’t feel right. We are fresh to the business, we are scared to burn bridges, we are scared to come across as “difficult to work with.”
I have learned that it is often times respected when you speak up for yourself, which can be done in a professional and respectful way.
We are our own advocates, and have to be our own biggest cheerleaders.
Knowing your worth as an actor can protect you from many traumatic or difficult experiences in this business.
