Friends with a Broadway Star

Casey Cott and I

Left at SETC Convention (2012) Right in Europe (2008)

Casey Cott and I are besties!!

Okay, not really. We haven't talked in ... almost a decade, but... we were close back in the day.

Casey and I met back in 2008 and became fast friends over our love of musical theatre.

Something he said to me when he found out I was going to be majoring in musical theatre was, "Oh you should meet my brother Corey! He's going to Carnegie Melon and you guys would be great friends!" (This was only a few years before Corey made his Broadway debut in Newsies)

Something Casey and I would talk about was how he felt like his brother was more of the musical theatre talent. Casey was planning to go to school for straight theatre, but didn't really know if that was the route he wanted to take. He told me he didn't feel like he was much of a singer like his brother was, and that musicals weren't really his strong-suit.

Well look at him now! Starring in Moulin Rouge on Broadway, and becoming a household name starring in the hit TV show Riverdale, and performing the lead role in Tommy at the Kennedy Center.

The point of this story? Even Broadway stars have had doubts at one time or another. The first photo was our reunion at SETC 4 years after we had first met. (Circa 2012)

Yes, even Casey Cott at one point attended SETC to book work.

We all start somewhere. We all have self-doubt from time to time. Crush those doubts, and run after your dreams. You just might go from SETC to Broadway. :D
