Practicing on Autopilot

Get into everything that you can possibly do to make yourself better and grow. Some of the best growing is done in silence. Don't give up on yourself, it's not going to do you any good when the world comes back. We ARE going to come back, and you are going to want to be ready for when we do!"

Mindless Rehearsing VS. Mindful Preparation

"Autopilot practicing"

I have a confession to make. Because I am by nature, a planner, I quite often write "rehearse" on my daily to-do list when I have an audition or rehearsal coming up. Sounds productive, right?

Well, I want to talk about the difference in productive rehearsing vs. autopilot rehearsing. When you rehearse, are you totally attentive to what you are working on, or do you tend to let your mind wander, thinking of what you're making for dinner or what's on the agenda for tomorrow?

Here are some tips for making your rehearsal time a productive one!

- Add layers each time you rehearse

- Set aside 10 mins a day to rehearse leading up to a show/audition

- Add depth each time you rehearse (backstory, diction, breaths, character arc, etc)

-Time yourself if it's a 60-90 second audition

-Stay attentive and focused. If you find your mind wandering, come back to it later.

Need a little help getting there? No worries, that's what I'm here for! If you need some advice on how to take your auditions to the next level, shoot me an email, I'd be happy to chat with you!
