What Will Future Theatre Look Like?!
I was listening to a forum this week with Michael Baron, the artistic director of the Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma. He had so much insight into what the future of theatre may look like, and was sharing all of the intense measures that theatres have to go through with the Actors Equity Association in order to get permission to produce shows.
While no-one knows what the future of theatre will look like or when it will open, he did have full confidence that when theatres are given permission to start auditioning again and tours go out (which some tours are already scheduled to go out in March/April 2021) that the need for actors will be ABUNDANT.
His advice was to use the time we have now to make sure that our book is in order, to choose material we enjoy, and to also think outside the box in terms of what we have to offer. Do you play an instrument or have one you always wanted to learn? Start NOW. Fine tune those special skills starting now - because when theatres re-open they will be looking for inexpensive ways to produce shows - meaning if you have a one-woman cabaret, a gift in impersonations, or a special skill to bring to the table - it will be more valuable than ever before. Small casts who can play their own instruments will be a HUGE draw.
I am here and ready to help you in any way I can! Need a brush up on songs/monologues? Have you been using the same monologue and 16 bars for years? Maybe you need a whole book revamp! Let's work together - and if budget is an issue, let's chat!
Take care!
