Not a Backup Plan
Friends, I know the beginning of 2021 has already looked pretty bleak and not much different than 2020, but trust that when you choose to take charge of your life like never before, amazing things happen. Let go of the fear and live your truth.
Chat with a Casting Director
This past Friday I got to speak with Shane Hall, director, choreographer, and casting director about his advice to performers on everything from auditions to the pandemic to dance styles. If you missed the live, (and I hope you can go back and watch because this info is so vital for every performer!) I have the bullet points below!
Preparation.
Definition of Proactive: acting in anticipation of future problems, needs, or changes.
Being proactive means doing the things you need to do before you need to do them—like regularly changing the oil in your car instead of waiting for it to start sputtering and spewing smoke. When you're proactive, you keep your car running smoothly and prevent costly repairs.
The Skinny on Headshots
As we roll into 2021, audition season is quickly approaching, and it's time to start gearing up for submissions! Here are some good reminders regarding headshots and self-submissions!
The Importance of a Web Presence as an Actor
If there is nothing else I have learned from submitting for digital submissions throughout this pandemic, it is the importance of having a portfolio of your work in ONE place that casting directors can have easy access to.
What Will Future Theatre Look Like?!
I was listening to a forum this week with Michael Baron, the artistic director of the Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma. He had so much insight into what the future of theatre may look like, and was sharing all of the intense measures that theatres have to go through with the Actors Equity Association in order to get permission to produce shows.
Self-Tape Essentials
You may already know what goes into filming a self-tape, but do you have all the right materials?! Sometimes the difference in standing out from the crowd and booking a show could simply be how well your self-tape set up is. If it looks mediocore, you may not stand a chance against others, no matter how polished your package is. Check out these items below for filming quality self-tapes!
Just an Intermission…
This is an intermission, a pause, and just think how STRONG theatre will be when it comes back. It will be a new era of storytelling, and I think most every actor will come back in full force having had the time off to reflect and recharge. Why not be ahead of the game and be your best self in this moment to prep for that amazing come-back that is sure to happen in the future?
